We played boche ball and the kids rode their wheeled toys (per Big A) and the dogs rolled on the grass and chased the kids on their wheeled toys. Fun times had by all (as you can tell by the very last picture of Mr. Butler). Now I'm going running and going to bed...

Made me laugh
So I was taking Big A to work today, and came to a stop light. The guy to my right, that had the green light, must have been having a chinese fire drill...all by himself...he got out, ran across the street, touched the curb, ran back to his car, got in, and then turned left. I was sitting at the red light watching him, wondering what the heck he was doing, and he looked over at me and just laughed. So I had to laugh with him, or at him, maybe both. Made me think of you, Janika. I kept chuckling about it until Big A and I got stuck in a huge 6 car pile-up on I-80, that had 3 lanes merging into one. Yuck. Luckily, we made it to work on time, with about 6 minutes to spare.

Nothing Funny About It
Why do they call it the "funny bone"? You hit your elbow, it hurts like heck. It's not funny. Pain does not make one laugh. It makes one cry.
So, I hit my elbow on the tanning bed at lunch, and my entire arm went numb and then it started to tingle BAD, and now it just plain hurts (and I'm having a hard time typing this, but you won't know that thanks to spell check)
It must be my time to be in pain and agony. Woke up yesterday with not 1, not 2, but 4 big bug bites, one on my eye, my neck, my back, and my thigh. Woke up with another on my hip this morning. I hit my leg last week when Jason and I went to lunch, and now I'm sporting a big ugly bruise. Then, this morning I hit my knee on the bathroom sink, and it bruised, too. I'm sure my elbow will bruise too, with the way it feels.
Jeez, I should just stay in bed. On second thought, no. I'd just get more bug bites there. I think what I need is a vacation...

What I Think About Blogging...
I have been blogging for a little over 2 years now. I noticed on my post history that in 2006, I had 124 posts. In 2007, I had 126 posted, two more posts than the previous year. This year, so far, I have posted 178 times.
Two years ago, I mostly posted to update my far away friends of what what was going on in our little corner of the world. It was so great to reconnect with the ladies I grew up with. Now, I post to do that, certainly, but I also post to apply the council given by President Eyring in the November 2007 conference, to keep a record of things for our families and posterity. Plus, blogging has become a wonderful way to strengthen friendships of those both near and far. I feel I have been able to see into the lives of my wonder friends, and have gained a greater love and appreciation for them. Often, life is so crazy and hectic, we don't get a chance to get to know people for who and what they really are, or to pick up a phone and just say hi. Blogging, in a small way, to me, makes staying in contact, a bit easier.
I hope that someday, my sweet children (and maybe grandchildren) will look back on our life and remember the fun times we've all had, and learn from our mistakes and challenges. I hope that they will be able to see a part of me that maybe they don't see now, but looking back will recognize. I hope they can know of the many wonderful friends we've had and made along the way. I hope this can be a way for me and my family and friends to be able to say, "Oh, I remember that" or "Hey, I'd forgotten that", or to laugh at the funny things, and cry over the sad things.
We know from our Prophets and leaders that the technology we have amongst us in this day and age can be a means of much good. It think blogging can be one of those good things.
So, for posterity sake, to my family. I love you guys. I'm so grateful we have memories, and that every day, we create more. To my friends, I'm so glad I have you, both near and far, and will count you as such for ever!
So here's to memories, family, friends, and blogging!!!!

Todays smokey skies
The visibility is about 1.25 miles...Air quality has been down-graded to "poor" by the Health Dept.
My head is killing me. The smoke is so bad, the migraine pills aren't working so well.
Thankfully, the AC at home is working now.
The smoke is so thick, I feel like it's cloudy and shouldn't be as warm as it.
The state of California keeps upping the number of fires burning...this morning they are saying over 1000. Serious? It went from over 500 to over 1000 in two days, and there haven't been anymore lightning storms. Seems a bit over exaggerated to me. I think they are just saying that because the smoke is so bad. It sounds better to say so many fires are burning when we can't see more than 2 miles.
Yeah, whatever, California!
Rhett thought it was snowing this morning when I opened the shutters, and after posting this picture from the local newspaper, I can sure see why he thought that. Luckily, not snow, but I'm not sure the smoke is any better than snow. And you all know how much I HATE snow!

Scout Camp and Smoke
So, Big A left for Scout camp yesterday morning. The scout camp is up near where all these fires are burning. Yuck. I hope they will be safe from the fires and that since all the smoke has settled in the Truckee Meadows, they don't have smoke issues. He's up there until Saturday.
Our Young Women are supposed to leave this morning for girls camp...again, they will be up around all those fires. And I heard yesterday, the road between 395 and Quincy was closed due to the poor visibility. Hope the girls are able to make it and have a great few days. (they only go from Tuesday to Friday, they get ripped off, don't they Jans?)
The news this morning said normally the visibility in this area, on a good day, is 40+ miles, today, however, we only have less than 6 miles visibility. Gross. It is giving me a headache, so I started the day with migraine meds to hopefully keep it at bay.

I laughed so hard
Yesterday in Sacrament, Rhett fell asleep on Jason's leg. Nothing funny about that. But, Rhett woke up because his leg fell asleep as well, and the tingly feeling caused the wake up. Nothing funny about that.
What was funny, at least to me, was the huge drool spot on Jason's leg. Like fist size; it was huge! And on silky linen like pants that have to be dry cleaned, I knew it would leave a big ugly stain. And Jason's reaction was funny to me as well. Like, ewww, gross, kid slobber.
I was laughing so hard I was crying, and trying not to snort, which made me laugh harder and cry harder. I was right in the middle of Sacrament meeting, so I was trying to be quiet, and I knew if I got up and walked out, I would snort, so I just ducked down and kept laughing and trying to tell Anthony what was so funny. My dear friend in front of me turned around and asked if I was OK, which made me laugh even more. I had to point out the drool to her, and Jason gave me that look that usually parents just give to kids, not to each other. I really had to breathe deeply and really REALLY listen to the talk to regain my composure.
Janika, it really reminded me of that time at girls camp in the craft tent when you "lost it", I laughed that hard.

Fun at the Rodeo

OK, so we didn't actually go to the Reno Rodeo to see the actual Rodeo, we went and paid to get in to see the Sheriff dogs. Our buddy on the force is a K-9 officer, and since his dog is a German Shepherd, and that is Anthony's dream dog, we wanted to see him. Plus, he's a hero, and we wanted to see a real hero up close and in person.
Wow! He's a VERY BIG dog. And he is very smart and well trained. Jason hid his keys in a bunch of shrubs, and the dog found them, and used his paw to "throw" the keys out to where our buddy could pick them up. He only knows commands in Czech, so it's cool to hear our buddy work with him. We also met one of the other dogs on the force.
A couple of weeks ago, there was a gang shooting here in the area that resulted in two deaths. Our buddies dog found the gun that is the suspected murder weapon. He's found over $100,000 worth of illegal drugs, and has made several arrests, without ever having to use his teeth to apprehend the person he was after; they always laid down and surrendered before he had to bite the heck out of them...
And, with the correct command, he becomes a total teddy bear that loves hugs from kids and giving kisses right back to them. It was a totally neat experience to see him. And the kids enjoyed it too.
Then we walked around the fair a bit, and worked hard to convince the kids they didn't need to waste their money on the rides or the games. It was nice to get out of our blistering house that still doesn't have working AC, after over a month of getting jerked around by the AC guys and the weather, but that's a whole other story I can't go into yet, it makes me too upset. Let is just be said at the end of a hot day, the temp in the house has been around 89*. I like the heat, and don't mind my house being hot, but it's the repair man not comunicating and taking forever that makes me mad...they ASSURED us it will be done by tomorrow. Sure, whatever.

My thoughts on California and Sharing
Being that Nevada borders California, we seem to get a lot of influence from the Golden State. However, I really can do without the high cost of housing that is driven by them, and the big city mentality, and trying to make everyone in Nevada think and act and do what they do, and THE SMOKE!!!!!!! There are like over 600 fires burning in Northern California, and we get to share in all their SMOKE!!!!! It's thick as pea soup, and my eyes are all watery. It's pretty bad.
Thanks for being so "golden" in sharing your smoke. Really appreciate it. Really. I do.
Yeah, whatever.

Books
My dad brought over 2 boxes of books yesterday. Most of them are old church books that my mom accumulated over the years. I'm totally excited about them, but my shelves are already full, so he should have brought the bookshelf, too.
Anyways, if anyone wants to borrow some good old church books, many authored by former general authorities and apostles of the church, stop by and take a look.

I've been busy

Great News
Jason just received a call from the recruiter at Washoe. He is on the list to take the P.A. test on the 12th of July. He is going to tell his security company that he needs to only work on Friday and Saturdays until then so he has the evenings to get in even better shape.
We knew good things would happen once he signed on with a new job...if all goes as planned, he'll only be at the new job until the end of September...but we're not telling them that...
He is so totally happy, as am I!!!

I totally forgot!!
Jason starts a new job on the 30th. He'll be merchandising for a local supplier that is bigger, better, has been in town for 50 years, and probably won't go away anytime soon.
His current job came to everyone 2 weeks ago and said they needed to cut hours so they could afford to pay everyone, so he was cut down to 4 days a week every other week. Then, last week, they came to everyone and told them that their direct deposit payroll wouldn't take place on the 16th (payday) because they couldn't afford the payroll. (deposit is supposed to happen today...but we'll see)
Jason and I both felt that based on the finance issues this company has had in the past, they've at least been able to make payroll, but now, with cut in hours and delay of pay...it was so time to move on. We have a family to support.
This move will be better, and with the hopes it will only be temporary as he hopes to move to the sheriff's office for training in October...but in the meantime, pay is the same with more room for growth if the sheriff doesn't work out, and he'll have benefits. Something he hasn't had in over 10 years. Maybe we'll be able to have dual insurance for my surgery now, and I can afford to do it sooner than the end of the year...
Anyways, YEAH Jason!

Lake Tahoe
A few random photos of Lake Tahoe I took on the way home...
Looking north from Reagan Beach, my and my mom's favorite beach when we lived up there in the 70's. It's really smokie from all the fires buring in California, usually the view is much better than this
Cave Rock
The sun set, and a couple of the Nevada State Flower...Orange Cone...
More of the sun set and my sweetheart.
It is really hard to take pictures from a moving vehicle...

Happy 80th Birthday Grandma Esther!
Saturday we made a day trip to Apple Hill to celebrate my Grandma's 80th birthday with a suprise party. Jason drove, and my dad went along with us. Of course, my family never wanted me to get pictures of them, so these are pretty bad, but they are good for memories. Maybe some day my kids will look back and think, I wish I would've let mom take my pictures...
They are in backwards order of time...start at the bottom and work your way up to see them correctly. Sorry, I just don't feel like fixing them.
This one is my favorite...my Grandma and Kylie

All the kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and spouses of all present...
All grandkids and great-grand kids...
The great-grandkids

Grandma cutting the cakes...

Grandma walking in...VERY suprised...sorry it's so blurry, I was laughing and crying all at the same time...

As told to me by Jason
Yesterday, Jason took Rhett to the church for his Cub Scout day camp, but before he did that, he had to make a delivery for one of his stores, so Rhett went for a ride along.
Jason stopped and got him a dounut, and while they were sitting at the church waiting, Jason told Rhett he is very proud of him for doing so well at school and bringing his grades up and staying out of trouble. Rhett said, "I know."
Jason then told him he loved him very much. Rhett said, "I know."
Jason asked him how he knew, and Rhett said, "Because you're my dad."
Jason said he'd always be his dad, but that didn't mean dad's always loved their sons. Rhett said "You're my dad because you work hard for me and buy me things and tell me you love me, so I know."
Jason told me, and it made me cry. I have a great husband and a great son! And I love them! And Anthony and Kylie, too!

Kylie chopped it...
I took Kylie down for a hair cut this afternoon.
These are the before pics....

These are the after pics with her new "Katie Holmes" cut.

What a big difference it makes. It is SO cute on her. I'm glad I finally decided to go with a short cut on her, and only wish I'd done it sooner. This is only her second hair cut other than trims in her life. Unfortunately, she was born with very soft, fine hair and it always looks messy, and the poor girl has two cowlicks on either side of her forehead, however, by the end of the summer she will have natural sun bleached hair that most women pay a lot of money and spend a lot of time to achieve.

Pictures finally
Ok, I thought I had a hundred pictures to upload, but turns out, I only had 37, and a bunch of those were Kylie's. I'll let her post those at a later time...here's mine
So here they are...
