Peavine Playground Equipment in Flames

Yesterday morning I woke up about 8:15 and put Kirby outside and noticed a huge black plume of smoke down the street and realized the sirens I heard were heading to that. I was of course still in my PJ's but ran through the house and woke everyone else up yelling "There's something on fire at the end of the street!" My first thought was the house at the end of the block or the school. Ran down to see with all my other neighbors, and turned out it was the playground equipment. My boss is in the process of moving to a new house and her and her husband were loading up the truck and saw the smoke and called 911. We ended up with 3 fire trucks, cops, fire investigators, and a news crew. A neighbor took this picture and it made all 3 news stations and the newspaper. It has been ruled an arson, and RFD is asking anyone with information to call in. The kids said they torn all the remains down today and that new equipment will be put in for next year. As sad as it is that some jerk burned the children's equipment up, at least it wasn't the school. As is turned out, the principal was at the school at the time doing some paperwork, heard the sirens and didn't really think anything of it, but he told the kids he looked out his office window and saw the trucks in front of the school and thought he'd better go see what was going on. He was surprised to say the least. Just a crazy bit of excitement in the usually quiet neighborhood.
